Mistake 1: Running heavy export actions or schema sampling operations on massive production collections during peak hours
The mistake: Opening Compass, connecting to your live production database containing 100 million rows, and clicking the Schema tab to analyze data shapes at 1:00 PM on a Friday.
Why it's wrong: To build schema histograms, Compass must read and analyze database documents.
While it uses sampling (e.g. scanning only 10,000 rows) by default to prevent server lockups, running schema sweeps, large CSV exports, or visual queries on un-indexed fields can trigger heavy disk I/O and CPU usage, slowing down the live website for your users.
